Brands turn discount codes into welcome gifts, urgency reminders, sale mechanics and product discovery. These emails stand out through layered offers, terse subject lines and visuals that move readers from code to checkout.

A discount code appears in every email in this collection, but its role changes by email type. Welcome messages use it as a first-purchase invitation: Lenscrafters offers $10 on qualifying eyewear and contacts, while Fenty Beauty gives 15% off orders of $40 or more. LongHorn Steakhouse takes a different route with a free appetizer when the reader buys an adult entrée. The offer is not just a coupon; it introduces the condition for becoming a customer.
Sale emails use the code to add urgency or stack value. Boll & Branch combines 20% off sitewide with additional savings on selected styles and a complimentary gift for qualifying orders. Advance Auto Parts layers BOGO pricing, free brake pads and bonus rewards points. Wolverine adds an extra 25% off sale styles, while Aéropostale combines a BOGO-free jeans offer with a first-app purchase discount. When you build a sale email, state the main offer first, then explain the additional reasons to shop.
The clearest subject lines put the offer or product directly in view, as in "15% OFF 💜", "30% OFF BOOTS WITH BACKBONE" and "Here's $25 Off Your Next Vegas Escape!" Others create curiosity before the email supplies the reason to click: Lookfantastic uses "Looking for inspiration?", while Hobbs asks "Why you'll want to dress like our stylish friends..." Several subjects use an emoji alongside the offer or product, including "15% off lip loves just for you 💋" and "Must-Have Jeans—And They’re BOGO FREE🥳".
Preview text often supplies the missing terms, product detail or deadline. Lookfantastic follows its question with "We've got you covered with 15% off...". FLANNELS gives the code and deadline in "Ends Midnight Tonight, use code OUTLET20 to save now. Go, go, go >>". Jomashop uses "Time is up! Shop now to claim your exclusive offer" after a last-chance subject. Use the subject to create a reason to open, then use the preview text to remove ambiguity about the offer.
Countdowns appear in Green Man Gaming, FLANNELS, Superdry and Boll & Branch. In each case, the email content connects the timer to an expiring discount or XP pack rather than using urgency as an isolated decoration. Red is used in FLANNELS, Advance Auto Parts and Wolverine, while dark backgrounds appear in Lookfantastic and Fenty Beauty. These choices give the offer a distinct visual setting, but the message still depends on the code and terms.
Product grids let sale and launch emails offer several routes into the catalog. Green Man Gaming lists featured games, Bonobos presents jeans with product details and customer feedback, and Teleflora arranges eligible bouquets around its seasonal promotion. Single-CTA treatments are used by Lookfantastic and Jomashop, where the email content directs attention toward one shopping action. Choose a grid when comparison helps, or one clear CTA when the offer needs little explanation. Free shipping adds another purchase incentive in emails from Fenty Beauty, Hobbs, REVOLVE and KEH, though each brand attaches its own threshold or eligibility terms.
Discount code emails put a promo code front and center, from welcome offers to cart savers. How a brand presents the code affects how often it gets used.
A large, boxed code, or a button that applies it automatically.
An end date turns a nice-to-have into a reason to buy now.
