Red email examples lean on urgency, editorial hooks, and practical offers. Across retail, publishing, and software, red anchors layouts while product grids, single CTAs, and escalating discounts give each message a clear next step.

Wolverine gives the clearest example of an offer sequence. Its emails arrive in this order: “REDEEM 15% OFF TODAY!”, “30% OFF BOOTS WITH BACKBONE”, then “Take an exclusive EXTRA 25% off before we pull it.” The accompanying emails move from a first full-price purchase reminder to select safety-toe boots and finally sale styles, while free shipping appears in each of those three messages. That progression changes the reason to shop without abandoning the brand’s discount-and-shipping formula.
Jomashop also moves between broad and specific shopping prompts. “➤➤ Don't miss FALL SALE ➤➤” introduces categories across watches, fragrances, sunglasses, jewelry, and apparel. Later, “Hey” narrows the message to a first-order welcome offer with a single shopping CTA, followed on the next day by a category-heavy email headed “PRE-OWNED WATCHES • SUNGLASSES CLEARANCE • NEW MONTH, NEW FRAGRANCES • FERRAGAMO • DESIGNER SCENTS & MORE”. If you are mapping a retail sequence, these examples show three distinct jobs: announce the sale, activate the new subscriber, and return with fresh departments.
Editorial senders often lead with a specific story rather than a generic newsletter label. The Cut uses “The Hater From Feeld, by Lauren Oyler”, while NiemanLab uses “Two 23-year-olds used AI to create a daily audio briefing. It’s now the top news app in Argentina.” Eater’s “Tokyo pizza is raising eyebrows in NYC” creates a point of tension, and The Information names the news directly in “OpenAI Hires Top Trump AI Official to Work on National Security”. These lines make the featured content the reason to open the email, with preview text adding the broader roundup.
Commercial senders use urgency and concrete value. “⏰Clock’s Ticking!” is reinforced by preview text that states the offer window, while Wolverine’s “Take an exclusive EXTRA 25% off before we pull it.” makes the deadline part of the subject. Emoji appear as attention cues in examples from Advance Auto Parts, HarperCollins, and Green Man Gaming, but the surrounding words still carry the offer or topic. Of all the emails in this collection, newsletters account for 24%, sale emails 17%, and digests 16%, so both editorial hooks and promotional formulas recur across the page.
Red is the common visual anchor across these examples, but brands combine it with different supporting colors and structures. Craftsy uses teal and red around a product grid, while Wolverine uses red and teal for offers. Green Man Gaming adds green and a dark background to its red seasonal campaign, and Article uses red with a dark background for its fall home-tour email. The range keeps red recognizable without making every message feel identical.
The clearest single-action layouts belong to The Cut’s serialized-story invitation, Infogram’s chart-sharing prompt, Taskade’s verification email, and Nerd Fitness’s coaching offer. Other messages let the reader browse: product grids appear in Craftsy, SparkFun Electronics, Jomashop, and several retail sale emails. Getsitecontrol and Nerd Fitness add social proof, LastPass uses video, and The Marshall Project includes a survey. Match the structure to the job: one action for setup or activation, a grid for merchandise discovery, and supporting evidence when the decision needs reassurance.
Red emails use the color for energy and urgency, often in sale banners, badges and buttons. Used with restraint, it pulls the eye straight to the call to action.
Red works best on the one element you want clicked.
Large red areas tire the eye; pair them with plenty of calm space.
