Purple’s onboarding starts with repeated welcome messages, then shifts into mattress education, shopping guidance, pillows, and a later sale. Offers, testimonials, and practical buying tools recur throughout.

Day 3 after signupPart of a sequence
Updated Oct 3, 2026
The first email arrives on signup day with “Welcome to Purple — offer inside!” It combines a mattress introduction with a $200 accessory credit, a discount code, GelFlex Grid education, a testimonial, a store locator, and a mattress quiz. Its preview text, “Less pain. Better sleep. Starting now.”, presents a broader sleep message alongside the offer.
A second welcome email follows with “Reminder: this sleep is life-changing” and “Because of the GelFlex Grid.” in the preview text. It explains the mattress technology and directs shoppers to products, Sleep Geniuses, the quiz, or a store. The following welcome email, “Purple can change your life.”, returns to the offer while introducing mattress collections and shopping resources.
Purple continues with onboarding emails that provide shopping information. “No one likes stressful shopping” introduces the trial period, financing, store locator, and quiz. The next onboarding email combines social proof with product education through “Less pain. Better sleep. Brighter days.” and “Try it to believe it.” in the preview text. Later, the sequence broadens from mattresses to pillows through “The right pillow changes everything. (No, really.)”, with guidance for different sleep needs, comparisons, and bedding bundle discounts.
The flow then connects better sleep with daily life in “What can you achieve with better sleep?” before introducing GelFlex Grid in “It started with a dumb question.” That final onboarding message again points to the quiz, store locator, trial details, and financing. The Purple onboarding sequence contains eight emails, and its emails repeat resources including the quiz, store locator, and shopping guidance.
The commercial content is concentrated in selected messages. The first welcome email includes a discount code and accessory credit, the later welcome email includes a mattress offer, and the pillow email brings back the mattress offer alongside bedding bundle discounts. A separate sale email arrives on day 5 with “We turned ten, and we’re celebrating.” and “Anniversary sale starts NOW.” It includes mattress and base discounts, testimonials, financing information, and store-finder links.
Social proof appears in the first welcome email, the day 2 onboarding email, the anniversary sale, and the final onboarding email. Product grids appear in “Purple can change your life.” and “The right pillow changes everything. (No, really.)”. The anniversary email uses blue, purple, and pink. The subject lines include direct claims, questions, and benefit-led fragments, while some preview texts explain a promise or name the technology.
How often, when and how Purple emails its subscribers, measured from every email we received.
