A budget comparison needs context
Brevo can look like the obvious budget winner if you compare it to heavy lifecycle platforms. But PostHog Workflows is not trying to be a communications suite. It is trying to act from product data.
That means the cheaper tool depends on what you are actually replacing.
If you need email, SMS, WhatsApp, and transactional sending, Brevo is practical. If you need a few product-triggered actions from PostHog events, adding Brevo may be unnecessary.
When Brevo makes more sense
Brevo makes sense when the team wants a simple communications hub:
- Email newsletters
- Basic automations
- SMS or WhatsApp campaigns
- Transactional sending
- Forms and contact management
That is a different job from "react to this PostHog event."
When PostHog Workflows makes more sense
PostHog Workflows makes sense when the workflow exists because of product insight:
- A cohort needs a nudge
- A behavior should trigger an alert
- A webhook should fire from a product event
- A workflow should update a property
Final thought
Do not buy Brevo just to send one product-triggered email. Do not use PostHog Workflows as your entire communications suite if the team needs campaign operations. Pick the tool around the owner, not the trigger alone.
