Honest take: What is Privy actually good at?
Privy's popup builder is genuinely excellent. Exit-intent popups, cart-value-based offers, spin-to-win wheels, and welcome discount forms all work well and are easy to set up. For small Shopify stores that need to grow their email list from existing traffic, Privy delivers real value.
The email side is where it gets complicated. Privy added email marketing to become more than just a popup tool, but the email features have not kept pace with dedicated email platforms. Basic welcome series and abandoned cart emails work fine. But once you want multi-step automations, advanced segmentation, A/B testing, or revenue attribution, you hit the wall.
Most stores end up in one of two places:
Keep Privy for popups, add a real email tool
This is the most common approach. Keep Privy's free or basic plan for its popup builder and connect it to a proper email platform. Klaviyo, Omnisend, and Sequenzy all integrate with Privy's subscriber data. You get the best of both worlds.
Replace Privy entirely with Omnisend
If you want everything in one tool, Omnisend is the closest all-in-one replacement. It has popup forms (not as good as Privy's, but functional), email automation (much better than Privy), and SMS included. One platform, one bill.
AI-powered email at a fair price
If you want strong email automation without Klaviyo's complexity or price tag, Sequenzy connects to your Shopify store and uses AI to build complete email sequences. At $29/month it is cheaper than Privy's email plans while offering more automation capability.
The pricing comparison
At 5,000 contacts:
- Privy: $75+/month (email + popups)
- Sequenzy: $29/month (email only, need separate popup tool)
- Omnisend: ~$65/month (email + SMS + popups)
- Klaviyo: $100+/month (email + SMS, basic popups)
The question is not really about price though. It is about whether you need a popup tool with basic email (Privy) or an email tool that you pair with popups (everything else).
