Honest take: Should you switch from Klaviyo?
Klaviyo is the best e-commerce email platform available. Their Shopify integration is unmatched, product recommendations actually convert, and abandoned cart flows work. If you're doing serious e-commerce revenue on Shopify, Klaviyo probably pays for itself.
But it's expensive. Here's when alternatives make sense:
If you want similar features cheaper: Omnisend
Omnisend is the closest Klaviyo competitor. Good Shopify integration, SMS included, and similar automation capabilities. At roughly $115/month for 10k contacts vs Klaviyo's $150+, the savings add up over time.
The trade-off: Omnisend's product recommendations and reporting aren't quite as sophisticated. If those drive significant revenue for you, Klaviyo's premium is worth it.
If you're a smaller store: Drip
Drip is solid e-commerce email for smaller stores. Good automation, visual workflows, and reasonable pricing. No SMS built-in, but if email is your primary channel, Drip handles it well.
If budget is everything: Brevo
Brevo offers unlimited contacts with SMS for $25+/month. The e-commerce features aren't as sophisticated as Klaviyo, but for stores watching every dollar, it covers the basics.
If you're not actually e-commerce: Sequenzy
Some SaaS companies end up on Klaviyo because it was recommended or seemed powerful. If you don't sell physical products, Klaviyo's e-commerce features are wasted. Sequenzy is built for SaaS with AI content generation and Stripe integration at $49/month.
The pricing reality
At 10,000 contacts:
- Klaviyo: $150+/month
- Omnisend: roughly $115/month
- Drip: roughly $154/month
- Mailchimp: $110-135/month
- ActiveCampaign: $79/month
- Brevo: $25+/month (pay per email)
- Sequenzy: $49/month (for SaaS, not e-commerce)
When Klaviyo is worth the premium
Stick with Klaviyo if:
- Abandoned cart flows generate significant revenue
- Product recommendations drive real conversions
- You're doing $1M+ in e-commerce revenue
- Advanced segmentation based on purchase behavior is valuable
At scale, the ROI from Klaviyo's advanced features often exceeds the cost difference. But if you're a smaller store or not seeing that return, alternatives offer similar basics at lower prices.
