Why people look for MoEngage alternatives
MoEngage is one of the most complete customer engagement platforms for mobile apps. Mobile and web push, email, SMS, in-app and on-site messages are included, messengers and an app inbox are available as add-ons, and Merlin AI plus the 2026 Aampe acquisition give it per-user decisioning few competitors match. It raised $280 million in 2025 and is well staffed for enterprise accounts. Teams look elsewhere for reasons of process and price more than product.
You cannot see a price
There are two plans, Growth and Enterprise, and both say "Request Demo." Billing is per monthly tracked user. Vendr's reported average MoEngage contract is about $187,000 a year. Averages skew high, but for an app with a few hundred thousand users, the only way to learn the number is a sales cycle. Our MoEngage comparison walks through the cost at different scales.
One-year minimum, no trial
MoEngage states a one-year minimum on both plans and lists no free trial. If you want to test a platform with real users before committing, CleverTap has a 30-day trial, and OneSignal, Pushwoosh and Sequenzy have free plans.
The platform fee is not the whole bill
Funnels, retention, warehouse segments, Cards and messenger channels are add-ons. Price each feature you need by name before signing.
| Your situation | Keep MoEngage when... | Better alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Enterprise app with a CRM team | AI decisioning drives your results | Stay with MoEngage |
| You want a trial before committing | You are ready for a year-long contract | CleverTap or OneSignal |
| Subscription app on RevenueCat or Superwall | Webhook connectors through support are fine | Sequenzy |
| Many channels at published prices | Price transparency is not a priority | Pushwoosh |
| Category-leader evaluation | MoEngage wins your bake-off | Braze |
The alternatives, honestly
Best MoEngage alternative for subscription apps: Sequenzy
Sequenzy is built for the lifecycle flows subscription apps depend on. It connects natively to RevenueCat, Superwall and Adapty, turns their webhooks into trial, purchase, billing-issue, cancellation and churn events, and schedules a trial-ending event 3 days before each store trial converts. A single sequence can send an email, a push and an in-app message, and stop as soon as the purchase arrives. Push and in-app are unlimited on every plan, and you pay per email sent (free up to 2,500 emails/mo, then $19/mo for 15k emails), with no demo or annual contract.
It is not a like-for-like replacement. There is no AI decisioning engine, no messenger channels, no web personalization and no app inbox, and contacts need an email address, so anonymous users only get push after they sign in. For teams whose biggest wins are trial reminders, billing recovery and win-backs, that is usually enough. Our guide to email marketing for subscription apps covers what to build first.
Closest MoEngage competitor with a trial: CleverTap
CleverTap matches MoEngage's mobile scope, publishes its Core plan from $85 a month for 5,000 MAU and offers a 30-day trial. It has stronger built-in analytics, but email, SMS and WhatsApp are add-ons. See our CleverTap alternatives for its trade-offs.
Best self-serve push alternative: OneSignal
OneSignal is free up to 1,000 MAU and $19 a month plus usage on Growth, with in-app messages and Live Activities included with push. It is a good fit when push is the job and AI decisioning is not.
Best enterprise MoEngage alternative: Braze
Braze is the platform most MoEngage bake-offs end up against. It wins on SDK maturity, content cards and ecosystem, and Vendr's reported median contract (about $88,500 a year) is lower than MoEngage's reported average.
Best MoEngage alternative with published per-MAU pricing: Pushwoosh
Pushwoosh covers push, in-app, email, SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, LINE and KakaoTalk for $13 per 1,000 MAU with no feature gating. Its analytics and AI are basic, so it fits teams that value price transparency over intelligence.

When MoEngage is still the right choice
| Stay with MoEngage when... | Switch when... |
|---|---|
| AI decisioning measurably lifts your retention | You use a fraction of the platform you pay for |
| You need messengers like WhatsApp, Viber or Telegram | Your channels are email, push and in-app |
| Enterprise support and account management matter | A small team needs self-serve tools |
| Your contract renewal is competitive | The renewal quote jumps with your tracked users |
MoEngage earns its price for large apps that use its AI and channel breadth. If your program is mostly email, push and in-app driven by subscription events, the alternatives above cost a fraction and you can start today. Comparing push tools specifically?
