Why it works
- Open with a broad question, then quickly narrow to the specific crisis and its human stakes.
- Pair concrete context with a first-person testimony before repeating the donation request, so the appeal connects facts with an individual experience.

Friend, what does hunger look like? In Somalia, it’s scorched fields and dwindling livestock caused by long-term drought. In Gaza, it’s the constant interruptions in access to balanced, nutritious foods after three years of devastating atrocities. And in the U.S., it’s a working mother struggling to afford food and rent due to suppressed wages and slashed benefits. Right now, hunger is at its most urgent in Somalia, where one in four people are now going hungry. As many as 1.92 million children are in need of treatment for acute malnutrition. Some areas are at risk of famine. And now, El Niño-related rains are likely to bring flooding and further destruction to communities already pushed to the brink. There’s no time to waste when lives are on the line. Please don’t hesitate to send your immediate support to fund our lifesaving work and ensure we can respond where we are needed most. DONATE NOW From Somalia to Gaza, Oxfam staff and partners are witnessing families who have run out of ways to cope with this crisis. We’re able to respond immediately to save lives and fight the injustice at the root of this crisis because of the generosity of our donor community. You’ve helped us reach mothers like Fadumo, whose family is experiencing crisis levels of hunger: “The drought keeps striking our livestock. We have no meat, no milk, no food. Even when food is available, there is no water to cook it.” Families like Fadumo’s have barely had time to recover from years of drought, and now they face yet another threat of devastating floods. Parents are now being forced to choose between food and water and between selling their animals or feeding their children. As humanitarian needs soar, funding for lifesaving assistance is falling dangerously short. Your lifesaving support today will ensure we can reach the people suffering most in this crisis. Donate to help deliver urgent humanitarian aid in over 75 countries and fight the inequalities at the root of poverty and injustice. Sincerely, Oxfam America This email was sent to you@example.com.
