About this tool
Engagement rate is the metric that tells you whether people care about what you post. Follower counts can be bought and view counts can be inflated by a single lucky push from the algorithm, but engagement is the share of the people who saw a video and then did something about it. Enter your views, likes, comments, shares, and saves above to get your rate, a virality score, and comparisons against niche and follower-tier benchmarks.
How to calculate TikTok engagement rate
The standard formula adds the interactions and divides by reach: likes plus comments plus shares plus saves, divided by views, multiplied by 100. A video with 50,000 views and 4,000 total interactions has an 8 percent engagement rate. Saves and shares are worth watching separately because TikTok weights them heavily when deciding whether to keep pushing a video, and they signal genuine value rather than a reflex tap. Comments are the strongest signal of all, since they cost the viewer the most effort.
Views-based versus follower-based engagement
There are two denominators in common use and they answer different questions. Views-based engagement measures how compelling the content was to the people who saw it, which is the right number for judging an individual video. Follower-based engagement divides the same interactions by your follower count, which measures how much of your audience you are actually reaching and activating. A viral video will show a very high follower-based rate and a modest views-based rate; a video shown mostly to existing followers will show the reverse. This calculator reports both so you can tell which situation you are in.
What counts as a good TikTok engagement rate
TikTok engagement runs far higher than Instagram or YouTube because the feed is algorithmic rather than follower-driven. As a rough guide, under 3 percent is weak, 3 to 6 percent is average, 6 to 12 percent is strong, and anything above 12 percent is exceptional. Smaller accounts systematically outperform large ones: accounts under 10,000 followers often post double the engagement rate of accounts above a million, because their audiences are narrower and more self-selected. Compare against accounts of your own size in your own niche, not against the platform average.
Turning TikTok engagement into email subscribers
Engagement is rented attention. The account, the reach, and the ranking all belong to the platform, and any of them can change overnight. An email list does not. High-engagement accounts convert followers into subscribers at a much better rate than large low-engagement ones, so the practical move is to point that attention at a signup page and measure what arrives. Model the result with our list growth calculator, size the payoff with the email marketing calculator, and check that the new subscribers stay with the unsubscribe rate calculator. Sequenzy gives you the landing page to send them to and the welcome sequence that follows.
