Hello, Popsugar here, with your reminder to do things that make you feel well. Sorry for the delayed send, but we're wrapping up the week with some great stories. Today's newsletter was written and curated by health and fitness section lead Alexis Jones. Are Wellness Clubs the New Sororities? Pilates parties instead of mixers. Workout sets instead of Greek-letter tees. Matcha runs instead of bar crawls. As Gen Z navigates the college experience, they're rewriting the rules of community, finding belonging through workouts and wellness clubs. Welcome to the "wellness darty" era. "It's like you're at a frat party, but you guys are all there to get better and feel better about yourselves," says Halle Kopperud of the event made popular by her school's wellness club. Kopperud is president of the University of Alabama chapter of Wellness Society, a collegiate, high school, and city-wide club focused on building community through wellness. The organization has over 175 chapters across the United states and Europe, a majority of which exist on college campuses. But the University of Alabama is where it all began. We meal-prepped the same thing every Sunday: oven-roasted chicken thighs and an array of veggies, which we would then pick through for lunch. Dinners, too, were about efficiency: easy-to-cook meals that largely consisted of simple ingredients, like a pesto pasta or salmon and rice. It wasn't that we weren't into food β we loved discovering new restaurants and eating out on the weekends β but when it came to weeknight dinners, we were all about optimization. (He did make me pour-over coffee and breakfast every morning, though, which was a daily reminder of his love.) When we broke up in 2023, everything changed. I kept cooking with the easiest route in mind, often opting to "assemble" things like a cheese plate or a salad versus cook anything substantial. Meanwhile, he turned to batch recipes β he made a one-pot sausage, tomato, and ricotta pasta almost every week. A year later, we got back together (phew!) and eventually moved back in together. And something shifted yet again. A new kind of routine was born, and it's become one of my favorite rituals of our relationship. - Lena Felton Read More β β Abs For the Win β For the W!
