Hello, Anthropic's confidential IPO filing, reported by Reuters this week, put numbers on its spending, customers and risks. One of the biggest, what Anthropic expects to spend on computing over the next decade, came within $1 billion of an estimate The Information published three weeks earlier. If you're deciding where to invest, build or compete, timing matters. Our readers saw Anthropic's compute bill weeks before the filing. Subscribe and save 25% on your first year. Adding up the compute bill Weeks before the filing, we tallied Anthropic's compute deals, from Google and Amazon to SpaceX, and asked the question investors wanted the prospectus to answer: will it be enough? Sensitive customers pull back Nvidia, Palantir and Booz Allen Hamilton are restricting Anthropic's most advanced models over data fears, and one rival is already moving in. A harder line on pricing Anthropic has started cutting off discounts at usage caps, a tougher stance than its rivals take, and it's giving OpenAI an opening. Safety talks behind closed doors The filing warns Anthropic's models could cause harm, and in September we reported that Anthropic, OpenAI and Google had quietly discussed a safety body that's now taking shape. The founders want the final say Ahead of the IPO, Anthropic is asking shareholders to give its seven co-founders Palantir-style voting control. The IPO is now coming later in the year than investors expected, and some are already pushing back on the valuation. Two of these stories were later picked up by Reuters, CNN and The Washington Post.
