From Katya Echazarreta, the first Mexican-born woman in space, to Dr. Antonia Novello, the first woman and Hispanic person to serve as Surgeon General of the United States, the contributions of Hispanic and Latina women have created space for a new generation. THE LATEST BUZZ SHE STARTED A GIRLS WHO CODE CLUB, THEN SHE BUILT THIS💡 [First name] Trutschl first got involved with Girls Who Code by founding a Club to bring computer science education to middle school girls in her community. Now, the 18-year-old is using those skills to tackle a real-world problem, building a machine learning system and thermal camera setup designed to detect pressure injuries in ICU patients before they become visible. Her work recently earned her a $25,000 Davidson Fellows Scholarship. QUEENS OF CODE 👑 Computer scientist and author Eileen Buckholtz is shining a light on the women who helped build and manage the National Security Agency’s earliest computer system. Her upcoming book, Queens of Code, tells the stories of women who entered the field as young programmers and went on to shape the history of computing. FROM ROOKIE TEAM TO ROBOTICS CHAMPS 🦾 Four Michigan students on the all-girls Regenesis Project 31799 team are heading into a new season after an award-winning rookie year.
