Each of our pets holds a special place in our heart, but there’s always one who changes your life in a way you couldn’t have imagined: the one who arrived at just the right moment — or perhaps the entirely wrong one — and reminded us how to laugh, how to let go, how to begin again, or simply how to get out of bed on the hardest days. Shadow could be both charmingly playful and deeply tender — a great big dog who melted into a pile of goofy sweetness once he knew you were friend or family. He was a loyal and gentle protector who doted on the small dogs in the house. His devotion knew no bounds. And in his short life, he changed mine forever.
