The first thing I will tell you, is that we all had this pegged as a Burgundy when we first sampled in a blind line up of Pinots. Well developed red fruits, smoke, spice and just the right amount of earth and herbs gave this wine legit Red Burg and Oregon vibes. So when we pulled back the curtain and saw it was from a supremely high elevation single vineyard in Mendocino, there was definitely a jaw dropping moment.
We all fell in love with it, and had it pegged in the $40-50 price range, which was dead on for its retail price. After doing our due diligence we saw who the winemaker was. Sure enough, it was one of the most heralded Napa winemakers who spent years crafting the incredible wines at Newton Vineyards. Then it all started coming together, and we were just trying to figure out how we could get our hands on some. So when we found out the price we could get it for if we brought the whole damn lot!
