Hey [First name],
PMPro 3.9 is out today, and it’s a big one. It took months of work, and it ran on our site for more than two weeks before release so we could test it against real subscriptions first.
Kim walked through the highlights live this afternoon. Watch the launch party replay or read the full release post.
Here’s what matters most for your site.
Move members off an outdated payment gateway
If your site still has subscriptions running through PayPal Express, PayPal Standard, or another gateway we no longer support, 3.9 adds a step-by-step tool to move those members off it.
You choose what happens to each subscription:
- Recreate it in Stripe with the same price and billing schedule, including any legacy pricing. Members add a payment method and keep going without a new checkout.
- Set it to expire on the next payment date and cancel the old subscription.
We can’t carry payment details over from the old gateway, so either way, members will need to take action. The tool can email them automatically with a link to the exact page they need.
Start with a dry run. It shows you a full log of what would happen before anything changes.
Subscription Delays and Set Expiration Date are now built in
Two popular Add Ons are now part of the core plugin, so you can:
- Offer trials of any length, like 14 days free and then $12 per month
- Start billing on a set day, like the 1st of every month
- End access on a specific date, like December 31
These settings work on discount codes too. If you already use either Add On, your settings move over automatically when you update. The old Add Ons deactivate, and you can safely delete them.
Discount codes with less setup
Discount codes can now take a fixed dollar amount or a percentage off a group of levels at once, on either the first payment or recurring payments. You no longer have to enter custom pricing for every level. The discount codes list also has new filters, so you can see which codes are active, used up, or expired.
More in 3.9
- Clearer account page notices. Past-due and pending payments now show on the member’s membership card, with a link to fix them.
- Login protection. If you use Cloudflare Turnstile at checkout, it now also protects your login and password reset pages after a failed login attempt.
- A better billing link for failed payments. A new billing update URL variable sends members straight to the subscription that needs a new payment method. If you’ve customized your payment failure email, consider swapping it in.
- Level images. Add an image to each level so your memberships can show up as products in Google Shopping and search results.
- Small admin upgrades. You can now sort the members list by first or last name and filter the email log by date range.
- View As for more roles. Editors and Membership Managers can now be given access to the View As toolbar. This requires editing the role.
Before you update
- If you use custom code to change the price text from Subscription Delays, the wording changed in 3.9, so review that code after you update.
- Make sure the PMPro Update Manager Add On is installed and up to date. If you don’t see 3.9 yet, go to Dashboard > Updates and check again.
- If you’re a Max customer and your WordPress is managed with us, open a support ticket and our team will help with the update.
- If you’re not on Max and have a lot of custom code, book a call with Sam to plan your update.
